Legal Expenses

When you choose Tapoly for your professional indemnity insurance, you can optionally purchase additional legal expenses insurance. This additional coverage will protect you from various legal issues that would not be covered by standard professional indemnity.

What Sort of Legal Expenses are Covered?

If you add Legal Expenses insurance to your policy, you would be covered for legal costs arising from:

  • Employment disputes (if Employer's Liability is also purchased)
  • Tax investigations
  • Legal nuisance, trespass or damage to property
  • Legal defence
  • Compliance and regulation
  • Loss of earnings
  • Contract and debt recovery
  • Crisis communication
  • Employee identity theft

Our legal expenses insurance also includes IR35 cover. This is essential protection for all contractors, freelancers and sole traders, especially those working in the IT sector. It will cover you for all expenses should HMRC ever open an enquiry into your accounts. These enquiries can prove extremely costly. But with legal expenses cover from Tapoly, you'll be able to rest assured that all fees will be taken care of from day one.

Get Instant Access to all the Legal Documents You Need

Your legal expenses cover also includes access to a legal document template library. So for the most comment documentation you might need for your business, you'll be able to quickly download a template for free.

The legal document library includes templates for:

  • Employment contracts
  • Health and safety
  • Business start-up
  • HR notices and letters
  • Sales agreements

And much more.

All Tapoly customers who buy Legal Expenses insurance have free access to this library. And for a small extra cost, you can even choose a legal review from a specialist solicitor. They'll help you to ensure that all your documentation is worded and presented in a clear way that will help you to avoid any future legal action.

What Legal Expenses Aren't Covered?

There are exceptions for every type of legal expenses cover provided by the policy. For example, you won't be covered for tax fraud investigations, or for a failure to register for VAT. Other types of legal defences are covered apart from claims relating to parking offences. When it comes to contract and debt recovery, you're not covered for any debts less than £200.

Don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions concerning what is and isn't covered by Tapoly's Legal Expenses policy.
